Birthday Shenanigans!

Had lots of fun at the race track last night. Didn't win a single bet, losing by hair literally on 4 occasions. Roy and Maria did very well leaving the track with a profit, which they actually left behind.

Andrew even made sure they but "Happy Birthday Ayana" up on the racing board.

My Summer Vacation

We spent our holidays this summer out west in Vancouver and then onto the Rockies. Our very good friends Travis and Carrie were getting married out in Vancouver so we decided to make a trip of it.

Getting to Vancouver turned out to be a bit of a task. 2 hour weather delay, 1 hour maintenance delay, cancelled flight and no pilot made for long day. After the 7 hour delay we were finally on our way to Vancity. We had the groom's mom with us so we had to make sure she made it to Vancouver in one piece. A few Coors Light helped with this task.

After a crazy Thursday which involved 5 separate visits with about 20 old friends we settled down Friday with some Chinatown touring. The wedding was Friday night at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club... everything was absolutely gorgeous and the sun came out just on time.

Our Route Over 4 days

Vancouver - Kamloops - Jasper - Banff (via Lake Louise) - Calgary (fly home)

Things we didn't get to fit in:

-hot springs…I forgot my bathing suit so that figured into the decision as well
-drive to Golden BC (Rogers Pass/Kicking Horse Pass)
-Gondolas…I have a fear of gondolas…well not gondolas in particular... its more a fear of plunging to my death

The travel agency also came in handy when it came to renting the car. We saved about $200 and didn't have to pay a drop off surcharge for picking up in BC and dropping off in Alberta.

My Favourites: I loved the trains in Jasper, the wedding of course, seeing old friends, travelling with Andrew, the scenery and a quick shout out to that breakfast we had at the Whitespot!

Vancouverite Quirks. Vancouverites are always complaining about their city. I don't know why... it's beautiful there...but they complain about everything from the weather to the price of groceries, to their own driving. They like to keep their heads down... engaged in their Starbucks coffee, Lululemon sweattops and miniature dogs. Miniature dogs are everywhere in Vancouver…(apparently a must have accessory)... there are still bite marks on my ankles.

Try finding milk in a creamer cup in Vancouver. Not gonna happen. I ordered tea with my breakfast and only cream came out. At first I thought maybe they were out but it happened at every restaurant and our friends who were servers said they hadn't noticed before... but come to think of it the restaurants they worked at didn't have milk in those little cups either.
