So You Think You Can Dance...

This is my new favouritist show ever!

Andrew brought up a good point "it's much better to watch people try to dance then to have to listen to people try to sing."

This week the music was awesome (even a little Frou Frou), and the judges are so fcuking funny. Those two choreographers from New York are pure... I don't even know what to say... except "transformer"... god that was soooooo funny. So much better than Paula, Randy and Simon....I love it! I think it's because one of them reminds sooo much of a freind from back home.

My favourite this week was the Argentine Tango...that was hot... and what made it better was that it was done by my second least favourite couple.

I can't say enough about this show!

The Oranje Have Fallen...

What a sad day, and sad game to watch. Portugal just has our number I suppose. (that's soccer).
To add insult to injury had to listen to the last 10 minutes of the game via the ESPN broadcast. Example: this ESPN stat flashed across the screen (Holland have not scored since 27 minutes into the game vs Cote D'Ivoire).

Both teams didn't play like sportsmen. There was a moment when the Dutch should have given the ball back to Portugal after an injury and they didn't...that's just wrong. Lots of little fights were breaking out...just not what the WC is all about. I wouldn't be around next Saturday anyway to watch the potential Holland/England battle so that is the only good thing I can take from today.

For now my World Cup is over :( and will have to find another bandwagon to jump on.

voice-recognition software

I'm trying out this Dragon NaturallySpeaking software and it's a lot of fun so I decided to write this entire post just by talking to my computer.

It was purchased to help me make notes when I'm studying. Sure there are lots of errors but correcting the errors also helps me memorize/learn some of the material.

Property Tax...reduction

It took me a while to understand what the City was trying to tell me today in a property tax adjustment letter they sent...but looks like we have over-paid our property taxes so far this year.

For the rest of the year our payments will be almost 1/3 less than what we are paying now and we only pay up until October.

What a nice thing to receive in the mail for a change. I remember they sent us a huge bill due two days after Christmas last year. Let's just hope I read the statement correctly.

Chocolate Rice Krispie Squares

For a little taste of heaven melt mars bars with marshmallows for the stickey/gooey part of your rice krispie squares...trust me.

1/4 cup butter
3 mars bars
2 cups mini marshmallows
4 cups rice krispies

Chop mars bars, melt over low heat with butter and marshmallows. Add rice krispies. Place in pan. Refrigerate. Yummy

Some Salad Recipes

I have to come up with funky names for some of these new salads I'm creating in my kitchen. I'll name a few after Yoga Poses...or use those new wine names (eg: Fat Bastard) for inspiration.

Downward Facing Dog:

Toasted/Spiced slivered Almonds and Pumpkin Seeds (spiced with cayenne, salt and pepper-toast in a pan on the stove medium heat flipping them around once and a while until brown...toasting nuts this way is actually fun.)

Greens
Grape Tomatoes
Cucumber
Feta (sliced lengthwise instead of crumbled)

Dressing: Rasberry Vinaigrette

This was very good and very easy to make. After I did the nuts/seeds over the stove they still crackled while I put them over the salad it was funky...well worthy of a yoga name.

Trying This One Tonight

California Hustle

Greens
Grilled Pear
Mandarin Orange Slices
Dried Cranberries
Toasted Pumpkin seeds

Dressing:
Yogurt
Lemon
Olive Oil
Tarragon
Salt pepper
Chives

Both salads have a nice mix of the four food groups and a good balance of fats/carbs/proteins.

Argies are a Treat

Yippee Holland are thru...but even more impressive was the performance by Argentina today sending the world a message. If they play that way for the rest of the tournament then I don't see anyone touching them...I see them making the final! Good thing I got that track top.

When I was at field hockey I had first hand knowledge of how the Argentinian sport system pays so much attention on development and their coaches are excellent. The team is made up of primarily players who have won the past three U20 world cups or something crazy like that. I didn't see any weaknesses and there was a lot of depth and most importantly one big super fan in Diego Maradona. (he looks like a crazy person when he cheers..it's funny). Now that Messi looks healthy he should be very fun to watch. (I'll call him turbo)

Well it's nice to have so much soccer on TV but makes it very difficult to get any work done.

Roethlisberger Wasn't Wearing A Helmet

"Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger remains in serious but stable condition Tuesday after undergoing seven and a half hours of surgery to repair facial fractures suffered in a motorcycle crash."

I like Ben a lot and hope he recovers but put your helmet on buddy.

A Strange, Wonderful and Magical Place...

I can only be talking about one thing...Price Club.

(Sorry this was only my second time in a Costco...so if this post sounds dumb that's why)

Where else can you get your tires changed and then pick up a cake in the bakery.
So much candy...so much candy...so much candy (Andrew left me unsupervised for a moment).

It's enourmous and people greet you when come in (show me your card, you have to be "in the club" to get in here) and then on your way out "you have to show us your recipt to leave here".

It's a little frightening...there's something evil about that place. I just got the feeling that there are people watching and studying your every move (Very big brother) and all the shoppers have this zombified look their faces.

We somehow got an executive membership without being charged for it..yet.

Family Time Is Time Well Spent

I know you're not supposed to have that much fun with your inlaws but on Saturday Andrew's mom turned 60 and despite being a cold day in June we had a really fun time.

It's nice that I get to know Andrew's second family so well (cousins, aunt's etc) because he only really gets to know my mom and dad and brother. ..my extended family is very spread out.

We sampled the PC Shrimp Burger which I feared (but not as much as the scallop burger). It was not bad and just tasted a whole lot like BBQ shrimp. I was pleased that there were actually whole shrimp in there and just not ground up cocktail shrimp, which I assume was what was keeping everything together.

Why You Shouldn't Drink Out Of Public Fountains

I was out for a walk around Dow's lake and this lady had her foot in one of the fountains. She was just rinsing it off or something.

Yuck!

World Cup Fever

The Mexico-Holland friendly last night and while van Basten only played the B-side Holland still looked impressive. I liked Sniejder a lot.

What I'm most excited about:

The Heineken Commercials
The Announcers (he looks much more like a jockey, than an international footballer)
The Samba Drums
Ronaldhino
David Beckham's right foot, David Beckham's left foot
THE ORANJE

England is playing Jamaica right now and they look very impressive. I think in the past no one (including them) believed they could ever win. Now with the recent success of Chelsea and Liverpool and many players in their nucleus from those two clubs they should fare well. They also have a favourable draw and we should see them deep into the tournament.

Note to Peter Crouch: Don't do the robot if you don't know how...

Note to self: Push lamp to other side of couch. (When Holland scores your fist pumps smash it.)
