Quiznos Price Drop? Not?

I heard a Quiznos ad on the radio this morning saying they were dropping their prices.

So I excitedly went over at lunch to get a veggie sub which was formally $4.37. I eagerly looked up at the sign to see how much I would be saving...and it was $4.99. Common math tells me that is not cheaper.

The pizza sub-(which I get without meat) , went from $3.99 to $4.99...also not cheaper.

Nice head!

Part Time Education Tax Credits

At my course on Monday night we were complaining about the cost of the textbook $250.00. The instructor agreed but we also pointed out that we get up to $200 a month in tax deductions/credits for part-time studies. He said it is actually supposed to offfset your costs for books and stuff.

I looked it up on my own and looks legit;

Students who are engaged in part-time studies—defined as a minimum of 12 hours of course work a month at a designated educational institution in Canada—may also claim the tuition fee credit of 16 per cent of eligible tuition fees. They may also deduct $120 a month toward eligibility for the 16 per cent federal education tax credit, and $132 per month (indexed) toward eligibility for the Ontario provincial education tax credit. The same transfer and carry-forward provisions applicable to full-time students also apply to part-time students.

24 - Viewer Discretion Advised

I get excited at the beginning of a new episode of 24 when the warning flashes on the screen (viewer discretion advised).

But this season has been a little graphic, even for my taste. Yes this is coming from someone who loves UFC.

There have been two scenes so far that I found particularly disturbing (spoiler alert). 1. I was surprised they showed one of the executions at the airport and 2. the scissor thing from last night was a little over the top.

Steelers=Execution

The Steelers keep surprising everyone with their seemingly incredible ability to execute a game plan.

I've never seen a team convert so many third downs with so much ease. They stumbled a little near the end of the game, but playing a flawless first half made things a lot easier.

I can't say enough about Troy Polomalu. He's incredible. Twice during the game I had to tap Andrew and say watch this. (For someone who plays defense that is quite a feat. ) He just sort of "hurtles" himself all over the field like a crack baby on red bull. I love it

On to Detroit...

Kobe scores 81 vs Raptors

I didn't think this was possible in the modern age.

"Bryant finished 28-for-46 from the field and 18-for-20 from the line to become the first player in Lakers history to score 80 points in a game."

Some Election Humour

Martin, Harper, and Layton are flying on the Executive Airbus to a gathering in British Columbia when Martin turns to Harper and says, chuckling, "You know, I could throw a $1000 bill out the window right now and make someone very happy."

Harper shrugs and replies, "Well, I could throw ten $100 bills out the window and make ten people happy."
Not to be outdone, Layton says, "Well I could throw a hundred $10 bills out the window and make a hundred people happy."

The pilot rolls his eyes and says to his co-pilot, "Such arrogant jerks back there. Heck, I could throw all three of them out the window and make 32 million people happy."

Back To School...

I'm taking a class now on Monday nights and doing the IFIC (mutual funds course) via correspondence. The class is the first of 4 classes I need to take to satisy the educational requirments for the CFP designation.
The first class was really good, it's very relaxed and not a lot of stress on grades like I found at University. Most people are there just out of interest and are not really looking to get their designation. The text book is a ridiculous $250.00... almost the cost of the course itself. I also need to buy a special calculator.

Investor's Group contacted me again so looks like I have my foot in the door there for a job when I'm done the IFIC. A job there will satisfy the practical experience requirment for the designation (2 years).

Finally I have to pass a Day long exam. I think I will look into some memory courses to help me study for this as a lot of people don't pass on the first try. And I live with a guy who knows a thing or two about excelling in exams.

Steelers/Colts

This was one of the best football games of the year...Peyton waving off the punt team, the Bettis fumble, Polomalus 3 "almost" interceptions, Vanderjagt missing the game tier - WAY left.

I would have cried if the Colts had run that fumble back for the game winning TD. The Steelers deserved to win and Boomer was right on the mark in his post game remarks. (ie: 1. there's no way you don't run the ball with Bettis in that situation...no one in their right mind would predict a fumble and 2. Troy's interception was legitimate.) Ben Roethlisberger may have made the play of the year by making that tackle after the Bettis fumble...which is so impressive because a quaterback trying to tackle someone on a turnover...is usually a joke and it wasn't just an easy tackle. He wrapped his legs up textbook. I like when teams come with a game plan and execute it.

24 Season 5

You know Jack's back with lines like "the only reason you are concious is because I don't want to carry you".

Two things; lots of action but not enough (spoiler ahead) time to grieve for two beloved characters who are no longer with us. I'm glad I remained spoiler free for the premier.

Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang

Andrew and I went to see this movie last night. Going in I had no expecatations and I didn't even know what it was about. I actually just wanted to see Weatherman and it was playing on the bill at the Mayfair as well.

Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang is the best movie I have seen in LONG time. It may be because of the fact that I didn't have expectations. It's sort of like 6 genres of movie all rolled into one (Black humour, satire, comdey, murder mystery, action and romance), but it works. Then there is the superb dialogue, script and acting (and normally I don't particularly care for Robert Downey Jr or Val Kilmer.) And finally the story itself is inventive, fun and like nothing Hollywood has put out in a while.

Kiss, Kiss, Bang, bang gets a definite "I love it..." .

The Punter's Dilemna

If you are a punter in the NFL it must suck. The only time you get to go on the field is if your team is doing really bad. Basically the more playing time you get the more likely your team is going to lose.

Liberals Stepping Up - Announce Tution Plan

I like it...

Under a Liberal government, thousands of low-income students would have a better shot at getting a post-secondary education and finding a good job, announced Paul Martin on Thursday.

Half of every undergraduate student's first year tuition, and half of his or her final years' tuition, will be paid for by the government -- to a maximum of $3,000 in each of those years.

Master P on Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the stars returns on ABC tonight. Master P is one of the dancers. I think I'm picking Jerry Rice to win it all. That guy was a lot of grace and style and he's tall and lean which is the perfect body type for a male dancer. He also understands the concept of winning and competition.

Treatment Seems to Help Adults With Lazy Eye

New research shows that young adults with lazy eye can improve eyesight with a new treatment. I was always told that it was incurable, but if I had trained my left eye properly when I was younger it may have helped. The problem is with the signal the eye sends to the brain not with the eye itself (hence laser treatment/glasses etc do not help).

Hopefully it will be available in Canada soon.

The Purge

Andrew and I went through and got rid of a lot of our sh@#t on the weekend. What a lovely feeling.

A good organizing tip from Andrew: "don't put anything off that takes less than 2 minutes to do (ie: dishes in the dishwasher, papers in the file box)"

I have implemented a new mail system. I'm not going to open anymore bills until they are due. I will pick two days during the month to open and pay bills that are due. Should reduce the paper clutter around the house and have a new mail sorter thanks to Ikea.

Liberal Campaign?

I've been waiting to learn more about the Liberal Platform but can't seem to find it anywhere. It is no wonder the polls are now tied. The radio jockeys this morning reiterated everything I found true about the election to date. The Liberals are just waiting, hoping...for a screw up from the opposition.

The Conservatives have a campaign that's pretty easy to follow with exact numbers that I can understand. They have come prepared with a plan...and above all they at least seem to care about this election. They also have a campiagn that is blanketed in accountability. If the GST isn't down to 6% and then 5% Canadians will know. If parents don't get that $1200 promised for child care then Canadians will know.

Mr. Martin can you show me a plan with numbers that will effect me directly so I can make a more informed decison. A billion here and a billion there means very little to me, especially with the way the our government tends to give away money. I'm just wondering because I haven't decided who to vote for yet, but you haven't given me a reason to vote for you.

The Problem With Boxing Day Sales

The signs are nice in the store but how come when you get to the cash register the sale price doesn't pop up. At every checkout we had on Boxing Day there was an error on the receipt.

Except for Ikea which was the opposite no sale sign but $10.00 off on the receipt. That commercial with the lady running out of the store is both funny and accurate.

Today I could see my bus going by with no chance for me to make it. Then by the grace of God the driver decides to take his break right at my bus stop. Just enough time for me to make it across the street.

Hopefully the rest of 2006 takes on this kind of trend.
