Earphone Cord Tangling

I sometimes wonder how on earth my earphone cord manages to get so tangled when I pull them out of my pocket. I even do the wrap around but I still find myself trying to untangle them and it bewilders me how they managed to get that way from just sitting in my pocket all day.

Softwood Resolution Reached

I don't know much about the details on the Softwood Lumber dispute except that the courts even agreed that we were right and the US was wrong.

I'm glad it is finally resolved and while we didn't get everything we likely deserved it sounds like it was the best we could get.

2006 is a Census year

Apparently we are doing a census this year on May 16th. The little package with the quiestionnaire should be arriving in our mailbox any minute. I hope we get the short one.

Anyway the census only reminds me of one thing...Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs.
"A census taker once tried to test me....I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.... ffff fffff."

Actually maybe I'll use that as my email signature in honour of Census week.

What's a Kooki?

A kooki is a navigationless web site designed by my husband.

He's going to use the web space to post reviews on his favourite books. Also a good way to keep notes on the books he's read.

No Recipient, No Subject

Great name for band? no...

Just the starting point for my resignation letter which I drafted in Eudora so no one would be able to tell what I was working on.

Well I printed it this morning and will hand it to the boss this afternoon (I was told it is better to resign in the afternoon).

What's next:
So it's bye-bye to the 9-5 for at least the summer, by August I should have the educational requirements to start more serious job hunting in the financial planning field.

I had a fun 5 years and will certainly miss the mentality/security of a pseudo-government job but I was starting to feel "creatively opressed" and it's time for a fresh start.

UFC Article Makes MSN Front Page

The one thing UFC president Dana White wants more than anything is for UFC to be covered in the mainstream media. He hopes that one day UFC results will be covered in Sports Illustrated right beside boxing.

Today an article on the UFC was posted on the front page of MSN.

Honda Fit Release

Andrew and I got to see the new Honda Fit in person last night. Very neat little car that is sort of a cross between the Toyota Yaris and Matrix. You can fit two bikes in there and still not have used any trunk room... I still can't get over that.

Robert Pennington Jr.

We won't be getting a car until we have little ones but it gets my vote so far for the first Forward family car. A bit roomier than Andrew's number 1 pick the Yaris which will not be able to hold all that baby stuff.

The Dominican...Republic

I guess it became known over Easter weekend that one of my mom's biggest pet peeves are people who reference the Dominican Republic as just "the Dominican". She even argued with a close friend who kept calling it that becuase it pisses her off so much.

So we are at Andrew's parent's for Easter dinner and Andrew's mom (Jayne) keeps referring to the Dominican Republic as "the Dominican" (and I'm talking like at least three times) and I thought for sure my mom (Paula) was going to go bucknut on her. Paula stayed poised and didn't say anything but I knew she wanted to lay down on armbar.

So being blissfully ignorant I went and did some research on why "The Dominican" may be offensive to Dominican Republicans (no I didn't....i just wanted to say Dominican Republicans because it sounds funny) Picture a handful of George Bush suppporters dancing the merengue.

NHL Play-Offs Begin Friday

After becoming an NHL superfan at the beginning of the season I barely followed hockey after the Olympic Break.

Now the play-offs are about to begin and i'm excited again. At the beginning of the season I predicted an all Canadian final but with the Leafs and Canucks out I don't really see it happening.

The Senator's are very lucky to have Havlat back and I hope he can regain his form. His return puts back together the Heatley/Spezza/Alfredsson line.

Of course there are the usual concerns between the pipes but what is new in the Capital.

And what's up with Jonathan Cheechoo...I thought he was a tough guy.

Kilamanjaro at the Imax

We went to see this little feature at the imax on Saturday and it was really good. They chronicled a group's trek up the highest mountain in Africa.

The hike through different temperate zones to get to the top.
There were little kids and an old lady on the trek. Andrew and I didn't think the old lady would make it to the top but I won't give away the ending.

I really enjoyed it it the film and it was on the dome screen so that made it even cooler. Adaptation has always been one of those things in science that has really intrigued me, like the chameleon that can change colours to blend into its environment. They showed these plants that could close at night to protect themselves from then frost and then they open up during the day to get light form the sun.

The only thing I am wondering is the spelling of Kilamanjaro I didn't think there was a "d" in it and on the posters at the show it looks like someone has photoshopped a "d" inbetween the "n" and "j". Maybe the "d" is for documentary.

On a side note Derailed is actually a good movie.

Prison Break?

Is it just me or does it seem like with every episode they get further and further from breaking out of the prison?

They've been digging that hole for a good 7 episodes now. It's like trying to watch someone on Days of Our Lives try to tell the truth.

Debit Card Swipe Direction

I never know which way to swipe my card when I get to a debit terminal. That little demo picture is not even remotely helpful and no two debit terminals are alike.

There was a cashier at Loblaws the other day that did a neat thing when she took the person's debit card; instead of swiping it she just placed it in the machine the right way.

Till then I will think of better example diagram.

Having A Worm Phobia on A Rainy Day

I loathe worms, I think they are the most repulsive things on earth.

Well today on my way to work they were all over the place. Fat ones, thin ones all disgusting.

I hate them..they make my heart race and my blood pressure jump.

Bleck..

Music as Motivation in Sport

"Athletes, trainers, coaches and fans alike are motivated through the music that serves as more than background noise during workouts, training programs, and sporting events.

Does music propel athletes to the next level? Can training be enhanced through the addition of music? Are fans more apt to become enthralled by a game when heartfelt music is involved"
source SIRC (Sport Research Intelligence)

I would tend to agree with this before even seeing the scientific results. But SIRC has some neat articles on this topic. Music obviously releases endorphins.

From Your Grocer's Shelf

Some products I've recently tried that get a big thumbs up!:

McCain's Oven Roasts (Potatoes): Tastier than french fries and better for you, plus they even come in sweet potato variety (for those looking to get more beta carotein.)

Dempster's Smart Ones; Half white/half brown bread: good stuff in the stay fresh bag.

President's Choice Haddock and Hops: If your favourite comfort food is fish & chips like me you won't be dissapointed.

I have been a little sick the last few days with some weird chest pains. Andrew took me to emergency two nights ago and we stayed there for 5 hours, he then took the day off yesterday to take care of me. Not to mention all of the whining he had to put up with.

He is my little sasquatch.

Just ordered my first piece of 2006 World Cup gear. It is the Argentina track top (yes Andrew I bought another track top). I know it is a little odd considering I don't cheer for Argentina and they are in the same pool as Holland but Argentina soccer gear is hot!
