I'm Writing Letters...

I'm going to start writing my long distance friends letters because email is so impersonal and phone calls are soooo nineteen-nineties.

I have been having some really funny memories from University Days and I'd better get them down on paper. My three closest friends from Ottawa U have moved away (one is moving to Halifax in January).

This weekend I went to see the Gee-Gees play their quarterfinal match. The whole day I was going through the motions I used to go through before a home game. Wake up... have the gameday meal (lots of water-lots of bananas), pack up the soccer gear, wait for your ride, get dressed, warm up,captain's toss... everything. For a fleeeting moment I was back at that time -it was fun.

Anyways the girls put on a show, crushing Waterloo 4-0. I'm glad I went, but only saw 2 other Alumni. They are ranked #1 in Canada and went undefeated this season.

Restaurant Teapot Rant

Why do restaurants insist on providing teapots that spill everywhere?

I have yet to have a nice breakfaast special without a puddle of water on my table.

I mean how many features does a teapot need? 1. Hold water 2. Pour water out of spout without spilling....Daaaah!

CFL Fan Kicks 50 yard Field Goal for a Million

That was awesome, the guy misses from 20, 30, and 40 and then steps up and nails the 50 yarder.

The most amusing part of this whole thing were the cheap shots you can make at the CFL:

-Does he get $1000 if he misses but his friend can't run it out of the endzone?
-How he was trained for the event with Argo kicker, Noel Prefontaine (who will probably never see a million dollars in his lifetime).

I'm impressed buddy...good thing you were a soccer player.

6/49 Jackpot at $40 Million

Hmm...what would I do with $40 mil....?

I think I would buy shares in a private jet and then a whole bunch of villas on every continent (just so I could have somewhere to go in my private jet).

Then I would buy a strawberry milkshake

Throw in a few business ventures:
A Tim Horton's in Tunney's Pasture (mechanicsville)
A Sushi Restaurant in the Glebe (5 Indian Restaurants but no sushi...what gives?)

I suppose I would need a nice car as well. Audi maybe?

I also suppose I would have to give some to charity.

Family and Friends could have some I guess...

Ice Cream Headache

I've never experienced an ice cream headache. But then again I could never see the picture in those 3D things...you know the ones that you were supposed to stare at for a long time until a tiger or something appeared. (hey whatever happended to those things?)

Ottawa Museum Crawl

So I began the first leg of my Ottawa Museum Crawl.

I checked out the Museum of Nature on Saturday Afternoon. My favourite part was the insects because they were alive and on display. Fossils are cool and stuff but the don't move.

The museum is free right now (suggested donation) because they are renovating. The dinosaur display will be down until next October but there are a few bones/fossils on display.

They were also showing a movie in the theatre: Falcons of Toronto.

Museums are also a great place to people watch.

Next stop the National Gallery.

Notre Dame in Green?

Please don't do that ever again....

On a happier note I don't think I've watched College Football in years but what a fun weekend. I think the Irish deserved a win over USC but they needed a little bit of luck at the end that they just didn't get. I only saw highlights... but sounds like the Penn State - Michigan Games was also an exciting nail biter that went right down to the wire.

How to Watch Season 5 of 24?

We have a dilemna. Since I reallly didn't enjoy watching 24 week by week last season we have to decide how we'll watch it this year.

Option #1: Tape all episodes and watch them all at once at the end of Season. This option leaves us vulnerable to spoilers and 24 Withdrawal.

Option #2: Watch all episodes as they occur in real time (ha ha...I'm funny). As mentioned earlier I don't like this method.

Option #3: Tape episodes and watch them in bunches of 4 at a time. Again we are left a little vulnerable to spoilers and this could make symptoms of 24 withdrawal even worse.

Speaking of 24 Blasphemy...my brother watched Season 4 before he finished watching Season 3. I became almost as incensed as when that girl from Survivor just stood there on the net.

Thanksgiving....

I'm thankful for...

My husband who has the best quailty a person can have...humility.

Family...inlaws included they truly are wonderful.

Friends...big and small, gay and straight, fat and thin, and all those inbetween.

My Job...I don't hate you job...I was just playin', you pay the bills.

The Miami Dolphins: The only pro sports team that I truly cheer for. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. Through the good times and the bad. Go Fish!

The new NHL, faster, funner, more exciting and certainly no place for goons.

A New Diet is A Long Term Investment not a Fad

When I refer to my new diet, I'm referring to eating habits not the I'm trying to lose weight kind of diet. I'm just trying to eat more healthy foods and less processed foods.

But I think you have to look at dieting (either definition) like you would an investment. It is some thing for the long term. Start with small changes an in a year or so you will have developed healthy eating habits that will stay with you for the long term. The benefits your body will feel will compound juts like interest would on and investment.

Some things I learned.A little fat in you diet is not a bad thing. Infact fat helps the body absorb nutrients. So in other words if you have a salad with fat free dressing you are making it more difficult for your body to absorb the wonderful nutrients in your salad.

Don't cut things out that you like as this will lead to cravings and make it more difficult for to stay on track. Replace instead of cut out. Replace bad sugars (candy, chocolate) with good sugars (fruits and pure juices). Replace bad carbs (french fries) with good carbs (high fibre cereals, whole wheat pasta), replace fatty meats (bacon & sausage) with leaner meats (fish and seafood). Replace bad fats (mcdonalds) with good fats (nuts, dairy)

There is also a little psychology involved. For example I love Oranges. I would rather eat an orange than a chocolate bar. It is just as sweet, it is more refreshing, it is unprocessed and it's good for you. The more Good For You foods that you can say "I'd rather eat", the closer you get to cashing out your investment.

Restaurant Review: Urban Pear, Ottawa

Andrew and I had a lovely dining experience on Wednesday at the Urban Pear in the Glebe. I was a bit hesitant at first to go because I know the menu is a little pricey but he was the persuasive one this time.

Distance From My Couch: A+
Atmosphere: N/A we were on the patio so it's tough to say
Service: A (I knew the server from university days so it can be little wierd being served by someone you know).
Food: A+ we had the Anitpasti plate for two and I had the vegetarian entree (squash pie) and Andrew had the Butternut Squash soup. This was some of the most flavourful food I have had in a while.
Price: B- The total bill came to $68.00 inculding a glass of wine and a beer which is pretty good but keep in mind we only had one entree and two appetizers.

Would I go back:yes definately!
