Merlot

Not sure how long I've lived in Ottawa (wow it's actually almost 10 years now), but I finally got a chance to eat at Merlot, the revolving roof top restaurant on top of the Marriott downtown.

The food was excellent but a little pricey (we went with someone who worked there and who also was graciuos enough to pay) so in reality not that expensive. It is a truly an experience everyone should do...especially on special occassions. We had a clear night as well so the view was spectacular. (Guys if you haven't found something special to do for your girl on V-day this is the place.)

You actually rotate around the outside ring of the restaurant so you get to see the city and the different parts of the interior of the restaurant. Looking at the interior was a little wierd and made me queasy because you can see the floor moving.

The best part was when we ended our meal, because we had rotated right back to where we hung our coats up (door-to door service ;)

Nice... I'd love to do it again.

And fancy restaurants are always fun when I get to remind Andrew that both Prosciutto and Pancetta are not acessible to vegetarians.

Just a side comment. Not too impressed that to *apply* the staff discount, only one bill could be used (and only one credit card). WTF? So, not only did the birthday boy get stuck with the bill, but on his birthday too!

So, we did end up helping to pay the bill, but it was still a lovely experience.
