How To Play Music From An Ipod Wirelessly Through Home Stereo System

For years I have a been looking for a way to play music wirelessly from my Ipod touch. I wanted to be able to walk around to just about any room in my house and control the music being played out of the home speaker system from my ipod touch or iphone in the palm of my hand. I didn't want to use a dock with a small remote and limited features. I didn't want to have something hanging off the end of the ipod like a wireless dongle but this seemed to be the only solution. I also didn't want to have to get up and flick a switch each time I wanted to play to music. I wanted good sound quality. Our first attempt was through the apple remote app and our computer playing itunes via our home stereo. This was a pain if the computer was off and I found the sound quality was a bit distorted.

I finally came across a forum that suggested the use of Bluetooth technology to accomplish my task. A Bluetooth adapter plugged into the auxillary jack of my home stereo system was apparently the solution to my wireless music problem. So no cords, no tiny remotes, no running apple remote through a computer system.

Here are my results:

I went with the Motorolla DC 800 as my adapter which I found easily on ebay for under $50. It was shipped to me in under a week. I plugged the audio out jacks from the adapter into the auxillary jack of my Boston Acoustics stereo. Followed the instructions on the adapter for connecting to the audio device (ie ipod touch)

Now to my ipod...I went to Settings--General-Bluetooth ---- turned Bluetooth on my 2nd gen Ipod touch and connected the device with the adapter...easy peasy. Now came the true test...a) would it work b) how would it sound. I didn't mind forking out the $50 bucks to at least test this theory. And Voila---it worked. I'm in the kitchen, I'm in the den, I'm in the bedroom and I can listen to my favourite songs on the stereo speakers. The sound quality seems fine to me. The results have been excellent so far. Sometimes it does cut out-but i was expecting that with bluetooth.

From what I understand you have to have a bluetooth enabled ipod for this to work.

So all in all I'm glad to have found a solution to my problem.
