Happy Holidays!

I will be on holidays for just over a week starting in 3 hours.

If you need me I will be eating chocolate, drinking wine, watching movies, tolerating-I mean loving family (the wine helps), seeing old friends in Toronto and opening my presents.

Yes! 1 - nil!

When You Want To Say Something But You Can't...

So we did a fundraiser for our Junior Women's World Cup team, where people could sponsor a jersey of one of the players. With a Jersey sponsorship you got a t-shirt and a photo and some other stuff. Unfortuantely some of the t-shirt sizes went on backorder.

So today someone requests to have their money back because they ordered like 12 t-shirts and they are still not in. Which is fine, but it was for charity. Who asks for their money back after donating to a charitable cause?

So in my draft email I was mentioning how the "girls could have really used the money". But I couldn't really send that...but I wanted to.

Deal or No Deal

I'm gonna go with no deal because this is a crap game show.

There is absolutely no skill involved, no trivia to answer, no puzzles to solve.

The premise is that you pick one briefcase out of 26 and it has a value of between $0.01 and $1,000,000 in varying increments. Queue the ever-present, token game show beauties who will reveal the value of each brief case one by one (26 beauties in all and Wheel of Fortune only needs one Vanna). It's funny watching the dumb ones try to peek in the brief case before they reveal it's value.

Then there is this banker who makes you an offer to buy your briefcase at different intervals in the game, depending on how well you are doing (ie: how many small increments you have been able to eliminate...using nothing more than sheer luck). The banker's deal is based on how much you could win and how likely it is you will not win very much (ie: if you have a lot of small values left vs not many large values).

Howie Mandel is the host and I thought he was good, but the game just doesn't make a lot of sense.

Miami Wins 4th in a Row

Well I'm greatful that we didn't shrivel up and die like we usually do in December. While we won't make the playoffs, reaching .500 and winning 4 in a row down the home stretch is good enough for me.

On another note, the Colts lost their first game of the season. This is probably a blessing and not a curse for them. They will likely win the Superbowl and that will erase any sadness they are feeling this morning.

Who will be the NFL MVP this season? My pick is LT.

Dell

When you buy crap, you end up paying for it in the end.

Whenever I see the Dell logo now I equate it to Walmart.

Ah well maybe I'm being harsh...

Cool Things At The Toronto Airport

In the parking lot they have and LCD display at the start of each row that tells you how many spots are available before you turn. On closer inspection it looked like there was a radar/metal detector above each spot to derive this.

The escalators go on power save mode when there is no one on them. So they go really slow. I was approaching one and was wondering why it was going so slow and I contemplated going up the stairs to avoid a painfully slow trip up to the next level. I went on anyways because my legs were tired and all of sudden it started going faster. A little scary at first but how neat.

and yes i don't get out much....

Hello Waterloo

I'll be in Waterloo for the next 5 days helping at a field hockey tournament. It is my first time watching indoor hockey and apparently it is spectacular to watch. Teams from Canada, USA, Guyana, Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago.

Direct Mail Marketing

I think now is a good time for businesses to start resurecting their direct mail marketing campaigns. There is a general disdain for spam email and those pop-ups windows that are impossible to close.

I know marketers have gone away from direct mail marketing because of the low costs involved with mass email marketing.

Here's where I see the trend changing; the only thing that comes in my "real" mail box anymore are bills, and I would be pleasantly surprised to see a flyer or an ad instead of a bill. Especially a flyer about a sale or that had a coupon attached.

Dolphins Show A Little Heart

Yeah we've won two in a row and came back from 23-3 down in the fourth quarter. Andrew and I arrived home from Christmas shopping just in time for the comeback.

I love games that end with a last second touchdown, especially when my teams win.

It also doesn't look like the Steelers will make the play-offs :(

Poured Water Over My Cereal This Morning

So apparently my brain was still asleep this morning... even though I was moving about the house.

I pulled the Brita out instead of the milk and poured it over my cereal...nice.

And I didn't want to throw it out because that would have been a gross soggy mess and the longer I pondered over what to do the soggier the cereal was getting... so I had to make a move and fast.

So I filled the other half with soy milk, cause it's pretty thick.

To say the least it was refreshing.

I was also trying to put soemthing on a shelf but I didn't raise it high enough so I kept repeatedly bashing it into the shelf instead of placing it on top of the shelf. PS: It's funnier if you try picturing it.
